Optical illusions at Atelier Hermes
Your eyes will go spinning the moment you set foot in the Atelier Hermes in Sinsa-dong.
Artist Jim Lambie has covered the 326.81 square-meter floor with multi-colored neon vinyl tape for his first solo exhibition in Korea, titled "Nervous Track."
"It is like putting a new skin on the floor, almost like a tattoo. It also reminds of the lines of an LP," the Scottish artist told The Korea Herald last week.

The Gibson Street Gala
The Gibson Street Gala will take place on Sunday 21st June from 12 - 6pm and I am inviting artists and art students to take part in an open air exhibition in Westbank Quadrant either as individuals or groups. A small fee of £15 would be charged for each section used by individuals or groups, within which work may be made available for sale. The art exhibition will be a new addition to the fifth annual incarnation of the event and we are hoping to establish it as a successful and permanent feature. The aim is to create an arts community site and encourage artists and art students to collaborate. This is a fantastic opportunity in terms of exposure and any additional creative ideas are welcome. We will have artists doing life drawing and I'm working on getting a performance artist to draw an audience. Gibson street, Westbank Quadrant and part of Otago street will be closed for 7 hours. We have live entertainment on the main stage in Gibson street throughout the day, kids entertainment in Otago street, 30 stalls across the bridge and a large courtyard(entry from Westbank Quadrant) with acoustic bands and other entertainment. We have space for more than fifty artists and I'm getting a lot of interest so if you would like a space guaranteed let me know as soon as possible. I can supply you with a table if you need one and we are looking into getting covers for work in case of rain but I would recommend artists to be prepared for that as well.

Martin Boyce interview: When in Venice
MARTIN BOYCE REMEMBERS THE precise moment he realised what was so special about Venice. Scouting out locations for his exhibition in this summer's Venice Biennale, where he will represent Scotland, he and curators Judith Winter and Graham Domke of Dundee Contemporary Arts took a boat to the Lido, the "beach resort" island seaward of the old city. Lucy Skaer and Richard Wright shortlisted for Turner Prize
Two Scottish artists, one known for her intricate drawings, the other for his "thinking man's graffiti", have been shortlisted for the most prestigious, and controversial, award in contemporary art, the Turner Prize.
In a year in which the prize has taken on a noticeably more restrained air, Lucy Skaer (SEA graduate) and Richard Wright, who are both based in Glasgow and trained at the Glasgow School of Art, were yesterday on the final list for the £40,000 prize, £25,000 of which goes to the eventual winner, who will be unveiled in December. Art review: Nick Evans, Use History Autonome
ARTIST and gallery director Kendall Koppe is showing me around the spanking new gallery, Washington Garcia, that he opened last week. The walls are sparklingly white, the concrete floor has been newly washed and the glass frontage is gleaming. Oh, and the art, by sculptor Nick Evans, is pretty good too.

In-World: Second Life Studio – Exhibition and Project Opportunity!

SEA and CCE are looking for interest from students (and staff) in participating in a ‘real world/in-world’ exhibition. Funding from the GSA Learning and Teaching Innovation fund has allowed the purchase of an island in Second Life - an immersive 3D Virtual world – and with the support of Glasgow School of Art Graduates rm*, AKA Gaylie Runciman and Debs Norton, we are looking for people who would be up for experimenting with the site, contexts and processes of Second Life to:
• Build a body of work for a ‘real world/in-world’ exhibition
• Work with Glasgow School of Art Graduates rm*, AKA Gaylie Runciman and Debs Norton to explore the tools and contexts of Second Life as a site of production
This is a one off opportunity to test and show what’s possible in Second Life! It is anticipated that work made with rm* during the project will be exhibited in Second Life and also in a parallel real world space during April 2009. If you’re interested in taking part, please contact Paul Cosgrove Acting Head of Sculpture and Environmental Art by close of play on Friday 14th March and further information on meeting dates and project plans will be sent to you.

Aileen Campbell -Survey
You are warmly invited to the private view for:
Aileen Campbell
Survey
Thursday 5 March 7-9 pm
Exhibition runs Friday 6 March - Sunday 5 April, Tramway 5
Artist Talk Sat 21 March, 2pm

It is this property of music to form complex relationships across vast spaces that Campbell explores in the newly commissioned work Survey. In Starform 2007 the artist relinquished the role of performer to explore the sound lives of others, where elderly men gave private performances made public through their presentation in video projections. In Survey, these private spaces, the sites for rehearsal and performance bleed over from the domestic across stairways and through walls to interrupt and become the soundtracks for others. There is a sense of the local as themes and motifs are introduced and so begins a dialogue which orchestrates a narrative.

Expedition Basecampment

As part of the National Review of Live Art, Glasgow (11th – 15th February), New Work Network (NWN) and Space Station 65 are supporting Expedition Basecampment.
Expedition Basecampment is an invitation to take a journey that explores the National
Review of Live Art and Glasgow as you've never seen them before, considering the boundaries between storytelling and journeying.
Expedition parties will meet their logistical support officers at the project's basecamp at the NWN info exchange table at The Arches on Friday 13th and Saturday 14th February and journey from Basecamp to the dizzying heights of Basecampmental.
To provide explorers with spiritual and psychological sustenance on their journeys, inspirational gurus, will be waiting to meet each group and guide explorers with motivational sessions and altitude-defying narratives.
Expedition Basecampment provides participants an opportunity to examine the performative nature of travel by constructing a memorable narrative of NRLA 2009; looking at myth-making and information exchange, and collectively contributing to a unique newsletter. The project also offers participants the opportunity to explore structures of contemporary media and knowledge exchange, in a playful and unconventional manner.

Karla Black

10 January - 14 February 2009
Black describes her works as, "almost painting, performance or installation while actually, and quite definitely, being sculpture". These sculptures and their titles, form a struggle between material experience and language, where the former wins first priority. They are rooted in Kleinian psychoanalysis: direct, behavioural connections to the physical world that hold a tangible knowledge impossible to equal in words but still partially, while certainly inadequately, translatable. Words are important here when used in their rightful, secondary place, where the conscious mind enters the work, after the unconscious has already created the bulk of its physicality.
