Pedal Power - a commission for Stavanger 2008

I invite you all to follow my adventures in Stavanger, Norway. From 22nd-30th August, 3 pedal generators will be located around the city in various sites including schools, gyms, shopping centres and on the street. At the end of each day the energy stored in batteries will be harvested to power a lighting system for a pedestrian walkway beneath the city road bridge.

DURING KENNY Hunter's three month residency at New York art centre Location One in 2005, he explored the city, taking in the 'weird quality of light' caused by the lack of direct sun penetrating the concrete jungle. He observed the vast deposits of waste that would emerge on a daily basis from the base of towering skyscrapers. He also read a book on modernism by Marshall Berman called All That Is Solid Melts Into Air. The title, a line from the Communist Manifesto, could easily be a slogan for almost all this Musselburgh-born artist's work.

EVERY MORNING, KENNY HUNTER gets on his bike and cycles to his studio in Anniesland along the tow path of the Forth & Clyde Canal. It's an in-between place, part post-industrial wasteland, part bucolic riverside, home to swans and kingfishers, abandoned shopping trolleys and underage drinkers.

Edinburgh art students 'shame' tutors

Students at Edinburgh College of Art have humiliated staff by staging a rival degree show, saying their tutors were disorganised and failed to turn up for lectures.

The group, from the prestigious college’s School of Drawing and Painting, organised a show separate from the traditional exhibition of final year students’ work as a way of voicing their frustration at what they say was staff neglect.
