Natural Bennachie Commisions, Scotland
Land and Public Art Work • Digital • Art-Science Collaboration
Natural
Bennachie offers a unique opportunity to bring together multi-media
artists to work alongside specialists in the fields of archaeological
and ecological sciences in order to better understand the natural and
cultural heritage surrounding our landscape.
We welcome applications from all disciplines, and proposals that address the Year of Natural Scotland/Natural Bennachie objectives that are outside the stated commission considerations.
DEADLINE: Midnight, 17 March 2013
The Land Residency and Public Art Commission offers an opportunity to an artist interested in participating with the Bennachie community – including the Forestry Commission, Ranger Service and the Bailies of Bennachie, and developing new works.
The artist will create new works on Bennachie itself. Working closely with the Forestry Commission, Aberdeenshire Council Ranger Service and the Bailies of Bennachie, the artist will be in residence over five months, participating in the Bennachie community, creating new work and delivering events and workshops that will allow to the public to engage with Bennachie through creative practices.
Duration: The artists will be in residence from June/July to November 2013, with public engagement activities taking place through the summer and autumn months. There will be a culminating celebration event in October, with a final exhibition/presentation in the Spring 2014.
Fee: £7000 plus travel and accommodation.

The artist will work with and carry out research within the local communities, collaborate with the other project participants and develop a film or sound work that reflects upon human interaction and impact on the natural environment.
The artist residency period is flexible, with a minimum of six weeks spent in residency at SSW/Bennachie. The artist will be asked to lead an event as well as a media workshop during the commission period. The final outcome will be presented at the public celebration event in October.

The artist will work alongside the University of Aberdeen in carrying out a soil analysis of Bennachie, in order to explore past environments there. They will develop a body of work for exhibition that will be displayed with the scientific data gathered.
The artist residency period is flexible, with a minimum of six weeks spent in residency at SSW/Bennachie. The artist will be asked to give a presentation of their work and engage with the public events and activities that take place at Bennachie in conjunction with the Natural Bennachie project. The final work will be presented at an exhibition within the University of Aberdeen in November.

U-Hang @ Art Gene 2013, Exibition Opportunity
More than 45 local, national and international artists have exhibited to date under Art Gene's U-Hang Programme. U-Hang is an opportunity for artists at any stage of their careers to show their work in a public space alongside other events at Art Gene.

TILT: An exhibition by SEA final year students
An exhibition by GSA, Sculpture and Environmental Art final year students

including performances and film screenings throughout the evening

In its third year, Platform and GSA's Sculpture and Environmental Art have worked in collaboration to offer the unique opportunity for final year students to create site related works at Platform, The Bridge. Over the past few months a selection of fourth year students have developed new art work in response to the architecture, surrounding area and the functions of the different facilities in The Bridge.
The exhibition will engage with the users of Platform and The Bridge in a variety of different ways, by exhibiting pieces of art works in unusual locations within the building; challenging our expectations and perceptions of visual art.
The exhibition will feature art works in the form of sculpture, film, photography, sound, installation, text and performance.

David Sherry’s art practice centres around performative ideas relating to everyday life and depicting ordinary
experiences from a new perspective. Exploring beliefs, social interaction and real experience. Making works
that re-access the acceptance of common values, exploring the thin vale of sanity and the contradictions in life.
Sherry gains, through his work, an insight into the psychological diversity of any singular situation, fragmenting
what is accepted and analysing a basic moment in day to day life. Conveying the idea that nothing is permanent
or stable, questioning what is understood and re-evaluating a collective perspective.
For his solo show at The Changing Room Sherry will present new video works alongside a new series of drawings & paintings.

GSA Grad: Simon Starling will create the Tate Britain Commission 2013
Leading British artist and Turner Prize winner, Simon Starling (b 1967),
will create a major new project for the Tate Britain Commission 2013,
supported by Sotheby’s. The annual commission invites artists to make
work in response to Tate’s collection of British and international art.
Starling’s ambitious new installation, developed especially for the
neoclassical Duveen galleries at the heart of Tate Britain, will be
unveiled on 11 March 2013. more
