In-World: Second Life Studio – Exhibition and Project Opportunity!
SEA and CCE are looking for interest from students (and staff) in participating in a ‘real world/in-world’ exhibition. Funding from the GSA Learning and Teaching Innovation fund has allowed the purchase of an island in Second Life - an immersive 3D Virtual world – and with the support of Glasgow School of Art Graduates rm*, AKA Gaylie Runciman and Debs Norton, we are looking for people who would be up for experimenting with the site, contexts and processes of Second Life to:
• Build a body of work for a ‘real world/in-world’ exhibition
• Work with Glasgow School of Art Graduates rm*, AKA Gaylie Runciman and Debs Norton to explore the tools and contexts of Second Life as a site of production
This is a one off opportunity to test and show what’s possible in Second Life! It is anticipated that work made with rm* during the project will be exhibited in Second Life and also in a parallel real world space during April 2009. Scratch Video

Scratch Video was a British Video Art movement that emerged in the 1980s. It was characterised by the use of found footage and challenged many of the established conventions of broadcast television. Street Level have teamed up with Rewind to bring to Glasgow a selection of some of the groundbreaking works in this genre, including artists such as The Gorilla Tapes, The Duvet Brothers and George Barber. click on the image for more info
European video competition for students - Deadline 22 March
ELIA is issuing a call for proposals for short videos (1 or 3 minutes) within the context of the European Commission’s promotion of multilingualism. The competition is being organised as a contribution to the European Year of Creativity and Innovation 2009.
What kind of videos are we looking for?
Students are asked to develop artistic proposals for video works of either one minute or three minutes length. The proposal should reflect Europe’s linguistic diversity and the role played by different languages, inspired by the theme Creativity and Innovation.
What will the selected applicants receive?
- Each selected applicant will receive a 5000 € grant in order to complete their video. A maximum of 15 proposals will be selected.
- The selected films will be presented during the PRIX EUROPA Festival in Berlin (17th to 24th October 2009). Media experts will lead workshops for the selected students and their supervisors. Travel and participation costs will be covered
Who can apply?
All students from ELIA member institutions from the 27 European Union Member States plus Norway, Iceland, Turkey and Liechtenstein can apply. Each student’s application should be signed by a faculty member of the institution or by the supervisor.

CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS: Studio Project 19
Market Gallery and the Scottish Sculpture Workshop (SSW) would like to invite applications from artists (working alone or collaboratively) for Studio Project 19.
For the first time, market will work in conjunction with SSW to provide a unique residential and exhibition opportunity. The chosen artist(s) will spend 1 month researching and producing work at SSW followed by a month’s residency and 4 week exhibition at market.

It is this property of music to form complex relationships across vast spaces that Campbell explores in the newly commissioned work Survey. In Starform 2007 the artist relinquished the role of performer to explore the sound lives of others, where elderly men gave private performances made public through their presentation in video projections. In Survey, these private spaces, the sites for rehearsal and performance bleed over from the domestic across stairways and through walls to interrupt and become the soundtracks for others. There is a sense of the local as themes and motifs are introduced and so begins a dialogue which orchestrates a narrative.

Mark Wallinger's 'Angel Of South'
